Space Mountain

We are big time Disney fans in our team so we wanted to do a picture that represented that love.  This is our version of a vintage poster produced by Disney for Disney World's Space Mountain ride.  This was drawn by Marlene, Iman, Laura, James, James, Ethan and Luke.

I am also very happy to announce that we won this week at Geek Trivia!  This is a highly unusual occurrence for us and quite frankly we were pretty darned surprised when it happened.  Thanks Ethan for killing it in the final round :)

Table Art

We saw this yesterday at The Geek Easy and wanted to post it at the blog.  There is something really enjoyable about seeing spontaneous doodles and art on the tables.  Sometimes it can give a sense of how the night went for the team like looking at a snapshot.

This was done by Nikki, Daniella, Nathan and Kevin on April 14th 2015.

Equal Pay for Equal Work

Caleigh's drawing this week is for Equal Work Pay Day.  This day is on April 14th and is for a very timely and pressing cause.

Thank you Caleigh for sending me this pic and allowing it on the blog.

Helpful Geek Trivia Tip

Hi

Last night there was a Geek Trivia question revolving around the order of English kings.  I loved this question because it allowed me to use my history knowledge learned from a hilarious British show called Horrible Histories.  This is the song from that show that allowed us to answer that question no problem.  I am going to warn you that this song is extremely catchy.  FYI if I were to every go to Nerdy Karaoke I would want to sing this song cause I love it that much.  Enjoy :)

Think Different

Hi all

As many of you may know April is Autism Awareness month and we wanted to do something this week to honor that.  Autism is something very close to home for us as our beautiful son Alex was diagnosed with Autism when he was 3 years old.  The goal of Autism Awareness Month is usually to place attention on Autism and to raise awareness but I feel that everyone is pretty darned aware at this point.  When you have 1 in 56 children now being diagnosed  almost everyone will know an individual or family who is affected and if you don't just wait 18 months ... because I guarantee you will.  My family and I are passionate believers in neurodiversity and that individuals with autism have a great deal to offer this world.  In fact many people who have been believed to be on the autism spectrum have already added immeasurably to the world by being at the forefront to many major revolutions in science, art, mathematics and technology.  This is because they had the ability to, as Steve Jobs would have said, "think different".  Everyone that is celebrated in this picture is either confirmed to have autism or is highly suspected to have had it.  We understand that retrospectively diagnosing people as being on the spectrum is a controversial thing to do but we have thoroughly research our choices and feel confident that we can argue our case for each and everyone that is included in this picture.  Everyone of these people had difficulty fitting into society but each had remarkable minds and achieved wonderful things.  So lets celebrate neurodivisity and those who have made great contributions in this world
The complete picture
Nikola Tesla

Sir Isaac Newton

Albert Einstein

Marie Curie

NASA.  Temple Grandin who is the most famous person in the world with autism stated after visiting NASA that it was like a government run sheltered workshop for those on the spectrum.  What she means is that many scientists, mathematicians and engineers working at NASA appeared to be on the spectrum which if you know anything about scientists, mathematicians or engineers is not in the least unusual :)

Satoshi Tarjiri - creator of Pokemon.

Thank you to Laura, Matthew and Iman for working on this picture.

Finally I would like to add a picture of my son Alex who works harder than any person I know and never gives up.

If anyone has any questions for me please ask me in the comments below.  If anyone would like to make a donation to an organization that offers real time support and help to the autism community please go to www.asgo.org.  All the funds stay in Central Florida and goes directly to the people who need it.

Thanks and see you all next week

Phil and Rachel

Here are some chalk doodles from Rachel at Geek Trivia.

Phil and...

Rachel.  That is so sweet.  Drawn on April 7th 2015

Happy Birthday Steve

I had the pleasure of meeting these fine folks tonight at Geek Trivia who made some really cool table art.

This super friendly group let me take some photos of their table and one of them even drew a Ewok riding a dinosaur for the blog.  Why do you ask?  Cause it's a Ewok riding a friggin dinosaur that's why!  Seriously he is a professional artist who draws caricatures and I'm so glad that he took the time to draw this for me.  Thank you :)

Here are some other drawings from this creative group

All the people who did these drawings gave me their names that I wrote down on a scrap of paper that I then promptly lost.  So sorry.  If you read this please comment below with your names and I will add them to this post.  I do remember seeing on your table "Happy Birthday Steve" in chalk so...Happy Birthday Steve :)
